Riviera Nayarit is the new rising star in the Mexico’s tourism sector. The media is going gaga over Riviera Nayarit’s tourism possibilities which are been discovered by the world now.

There is more good news as Riviera Nayarit Convention and Visitors Bureau has declared that hotel occupancies registered a growth in 2013. The year 2013 was a challenging year in which the negative trend was stopped and a march towards growth was initiated.

The poll commissioned by the bureau showed that the average annual occupancy rate for 2013 for the hotels in Riviera Nayarit was 65.67%, which compared was an increase of 2.03% over 2012. The sample was collected from the municipalities of Banderas Bay, Compostela and San Blas in Riviera Nayarit. The months with the highest occupancy were February, March, July and December.

The number of visitors that occupied hotel rooms in 2013 was 2,389,408. Tourists who stayed in apartments, villas or other vacation rental properties were not taken in to account.

Riviera Nayarit’s hotels have more than 14,000 rooms out of 3,475,922 room nights were sold. Mexicans accounted for 56% of these booking while foreigners contributed 44%.

Banderas Bay area was more popular as 75% tourists came here while Compostela and San Blas received 24% and 3% respectively.

As the tourism industry and economy in USA and Canada improves, Riviera Nayarit hopes to do even better and consolidate its gains over last few years.
